Teachers have so much to accomplish in a day. I want to find ways to make the technology they have work for them and not against them. The worst thing is when a teacher has begun to use technology and even rely on it and then to have it crash on them. One thing I learned when I had a classroom is always have a back up plan. It doesn't have to be written down but be ready in case the Internet or computers are down. It happened less and less to me but this year at one of my schools we have been having real troubles. Makes it hard for me to suggest integration if we can't be sure the computers will be working!
I came to teaching later in life. I am a 50 something person and I remember when our family got a color TV. I remember before microwave ovens. I remember the first hand held calculator that my uncle gave me from Texas Instruments. It was expensive! I remember learning to use a slide rule and I thought it was cool. I can't remember how to use it now. My dad got the first PC that I ever saw, it was before windows! I think that started me off wanting not to be left behind. That was in the 80's. Thank goodness technology does not cost as much now as it did then! I am walking around with a computer in my purse now!

Elaine MathenyThis blog is a diary of my work as a TIS. I appreciate all the teachers that allow me into their classrooms and into their lives! I hope my readers will find inspiration for their roles here as well. Archives
